The vertical distribution of sulfonamides (SAs), tetracyclines (TCs), macrolides (MLs), and their related antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) were comprehensively investigated and characterized in a representative municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill in China.

However, to achieve high nitrogen removal rate in such a process remains a critical challenge in practical application. This work investigated the interactions between n-DAMO and Anammox in membrane biofilm reactor (MBfR) and then developed operational strategies of MBfR for high rate nitrogen removal from landfill leachate.

Healthy environment is a basic need for toddlers to have a normal growth and development. Living around a landfill area will greatly impact to their morbidity and mortality rate.

This study undertook a gene-centric approach to screen valuable production potentials from mixed culture biomass, removing organic carbon and nitrogen from landfill leachate. To this end, the microbial community of the activated sludge from a landfill leachate treatment plant and its metabolic potential for the production of seven valuable products were inv…

Commonly used final cover systems for landfills and containment areas include soil-only, soil-geosynthetic, engineered turf cover (ETC), and evapotranspiration (ET) cover system. This presentation provides a detailed review of various sustainability aspects of a geosynthetic ETC including comparisons with traditional covers.

The objective of the present work was to assess the odoriferous volatile organic compounds depuration efficiency of an experimental nonthermal plasma coupled to a catalytic system used for odor abatement of real emissions from a leachate thermal drying plant installed in an urban solid waste landfill.

The Almendares River is central to recreational and other activities in Havana, Cuba. However, monitoring indicated significant heavy metal contamination in river sediments, especially below Calle 100, the largest landfill in Havana.

Policy interventions in the UK have focused primarily on pricing the disposal of waste through a landfill tax. This article tests the effectiveness of landfill taxation on household waste collection and disposal.

This paper reviews the role of sanitary landfills in current and future waste management strategies based upon the principles and the goals established by the European Framework Directive on Waste (2008/98/EC).

Landfill sites receive 92% of total annual solid waste produced by municipalities in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. In this study, candidate sites for an appropriate landfill location for the Abu Dhabi municipal area are determined by integrating geographic information systems (GIS) and multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) analysis.

Abstract Rapid, under-serviced urbanization across the tropical belt has left many cities dependent on open dumps. These dumps and poorly engineered landfills often sit above shallow, heavily used aquifers.

Lignocellulosic biomass, owing to its recalcitrant nature, requires a consortium of enzymes for its breakdown. The present study deals with the isolation of cellulolytic bacterial strains from landfill leachate collected from the Pulau Burung landfill site of Penang, Malaysia, and consortia were constructed to test their cellulolytic efficiency.

This experimental study examines the effects of landfill leachate contamination on soil hydraulic conductivity over a 12-month period, addressing the current lack of long-term experimental data in this field.

In this study, we evaluate a novel double-sided SOFC (DSC) from HydrogenTech operating on various fuels (H2, H2/N2, CH3OH, CH4, C2H5OH, landfill gas, NH3) at 600–800 °C. Polarization curves show peak power ~0.226 W/cm2 with pure H2 (100% H2) and slightly lower values (0.203 and 0.169 W/cm2) for reformable liquid fuels (methanol, ethanol, respectively; exter…

Abstract Landfills are the most commonly used Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) disposal method in the world. However, poorly engineered open landfill sites pose significant environmental threats, particularly groundwater contamination from leachate infiltration.

Using the SEM/EDX and XRF, the fly ash from the Soc Son landfill power plant was analyzed and discovered that it exceeds permissible limits for dangerous heavy elements. The most common inorganic elements are Ca, followed by Zn, Pb, Cd, and Ag.

LCMs have been reported in dust, airborne particulate matter, soils, sediments, and landfill leachate, indicating several plausible exposure pathways, including dust ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact, and dietary intake.
