Western Philippines University Library respects the privacy of students, faculty, staff, researchers, and other users who interact with the WPU Library Messenger Helpdesk and AIRA Digital AI Librarian through Facebook Messenger and related library online services.
This policy explains what information may be collected, how it is used, and how users may request deletion of their data.
Information We May Collect
- Messenger sender ID or Page-scoped ID needed to receive and send Messenger replies.
- Public Messenger profile information made available by Meta, such as first name, last name, and profile picture.
- Messages, questions, keywords, and selected options sent to the library helpdesk.
- Basic service logs such as date, time, conversation status, and system response status.
How We Use the Information
- To reply to library inquiries through Messenger.
- To personalize greetings, such as “Hello Juan,” when the name is available.
- To provide guidance about library services, e-resources, online databases, OPAC, research assistance, and related academic resources.
- To improve the quality, reliability, and accuracy of the library helpdesk and AIRA digital librarian service.
- To generate internal service statistics and improve library support, without selling user data.
Data Sharing
We do not sell Messenger conversation data or personal information. Information is used only for library helpdesk operations, system maintenance, service improvement, and lawful institutional requirements.
The service operates through Meta/Facebook Messenger, so interactions are also subject to Meta’s own policies and platform terms.
Data Retention
Messenger records and helpdesk logs may be kept only as long as needed for library support, reporting, troubleshooting, and institutional documentation. Data that is no longer needed may be archived or deleted according to library and institutional procedures.
