Communication is essential in radiotherapy, helping patients understand their treatment, feel supported and participate in decisions about their care. Language differences can make this harder and may affect patient safety and experience. This study explores a practical solution: an instant translation device to support Mandarin-speaking patients receiving radiotherapy in Australia. Findings show the device is safe, useful and accepted by patients and radiation therapists. It enables clear, two-way communication between English and Mandarin speakers when a professional interpreter is unavailable. This improves understanding, confidence and care throughout radiotherapy for patients who prefer to communicate in a language other than English.
