Triple‐State Invisible Photonic Crystal Pattern Encrypted in Hollow‐Silica/Polyurethane Film for Anticounterfeiting Applications

Advanced Photonics Research

Online resource

An invisible photonic crystal (PC) pattern encrypted at the dry state and decrypted by solvent is a new anticounterfeiting material system, but its diversity and complexity in response are still required to be increased to enhance the anticounterfeiting effect.

Highly efficient photonic PCR system based on plasmonic heating of gold nanofilms

Biosensors and Bioelectronics: X

Online resource

In this work, we present a photonic PCR thermocycler that achieves strong optical absorption, more efficient gene amplification, and further improves the effect of temperature distribution through the PCR sample using two gold nanofilms (AuNFs) and a high-power light-emitting diode chip (LED).

Photonic Generation of Millimeter-Wave Signals With Tunable Phase Shift

IEEE Photonics Journal

Online resource

A novel photonic approach to generating a frequency-quadrupled millimeter-wave (mm-wave) signal with a tunable phase shift is proposed and demonstrated. Two second-order optical sidebands are generated by using a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) that is biased at the maximum transmission point and an optical notch filter.

Time-domain image processing using photonic reservoir computing

EPJ Web of Conferences

Online resource

Photonic computing has attracted much attention due to its great potential to accelerate artificial neural network operations. However, the processing of a large amount of data, such as image data, basically requires large-scale photonic circuits and is still challenging due to its low scalability of the photonic integration.

Topological photonics in nanoscaled systems with far field radiation and polarization singularities

arXiv

Online resource

Topology is a powerful framework for controlling and manipulating light, minimizing detrimental perturbations on the photonic properties. Combining nanophotonics with topological concepts presents opportunities for both fundamental physics and technological applications.

Enhanced Third-Harmonic Generation in Diamond Photonic Crystal Slabs via Doubly Resonant Quasi-Bound States in the Continuum

arXiv

Online resource

We propose and numerically demonstrate doubly resonant third-harmonic generation (THG) in a diamond photonic crystal (PhC) slab, in which the fundamental harmonic (FH) and the third harmonic (TH) modes are simultaneously resonant within the same membrane.

Deterministic and Programmable Fusion for Scalable Generation of Photonic Graph States

arXiv

Online access details

Here, we introduce and experimentally demonstrate a deterministic fusion operation with built-in error mitigation, capable of connecting small time-bin-encoded cluster states--originally generated on-demand from a quantum emitter--into larger, reconfigurable photonic graph states of increased sizes.

On-Chip Reconstructive Spectrometer Based on Parallel Cascaded Micro-Ring Resonators

Applied Sciences

Online resource

In contrast to cumbersome benchtop spectrometers, integrated on-chip spectrometers are well-suited for portable applications in health monitoring and environmental sensing. In this paper, we have developed an on-chip spectrometer with a programmable silicon photonic filter by simply using parallel cascaded micro-ring resonators (MRs).

Bimodal non-Gaussian photonic states from a single quantum emitter in a waveguide

arXiv

Online access details

We investigate the generation of deterministic and heralded non-Gaussian states of light, using a single two-level system coupled to a chiral waveguide. We study the case of a single two level system driven by pulsed coherent and squeezed drive in a chiral waveguide.

Distributed Bragg reflectors for the colorimetric detection of bacterial contaminants and pollutants for food quality control

APL Photonics

Online resource

In these regards, one-dimensional photonic crystals, also known as Distributed Bragg Reflectors (DBRs), can represent simple yet efficient all-optical and label-free colorimetric sensors, given their relatively high color purity, easiness of integration with a large number of stimulus responsive materials, and low-cost fabrication from scalable processes.

Molecular Beam Epitaxial Growth and Nonlinear Optical Signatures of Single-Domain Bi2Se3

Photonics

Online resource

We report a new approach to enhance the photonic response of thin-film topological insulator Bi2Se3 by significantly reducing twin domains and antiphase disorder. The strategy employs closely lattice-matched trigonal substrates combined with surface structuring to preferentially seed a single rotational domain before epitaxy.
