Photonic computing has attracted much attention due to its great potential to accelerate artificial neural network operations. However, the processing of a large amount of data, such as image data, basically requires large-scale photonic circuits and is still challenging due to its low scalability of the photonic integration. Here, we propose a scalable image processing approach, which uses a temporal degree of freedom of photons. In the proposed approach, the spatial information of a target object is compressively transformed to a time-domain signal using a gigahertz-rate random pattern projection technique. The time-domain signal is optically acquired at a single-input channel and processed with a microcavity-based photonic reservoir computer. We experimentally demonstrate that this photonic approach is capable of image recognition at gigahertz rates.

Given the recent success of metasurfaces in free-space applications, these concepts can be leveraged to an even larger extent in on-chip waveguide systems. The in-plane diffractive metasurfaces enable the manipulation of guiding waves in the multimode regime with greater parallelism than conventional single-mode or few-mode waveguides, leading to exciting opportunities in signal processing and optical computing systems. Beam focusing is one of the basic functionalities of wavefront shaping, which can be implemented using phase gradient metalenses consisting of arrays of meta-atoms. The meta-atoms are mainly realized by etched trenches with varying lengths, which are assembled into a one-dimensional transmit array with a specific phase response. However, this kind of periodic arrayed structure has significantly limited design freedom compared to its free-space counterparts. Here, we propose a digital metalens that consists of a seamless array of pixelated unit cells, which are engineered via inverse design. In contrast to conventional focusing metalenses based on transmit arrays, highly functional digital metalenses have been demonstrated: (1) achromatic focusing lens; (2) extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens; (3) Airy beam lens. These devices were fabricated on a silicon photonic platform and characterized in near-infrared. The intersection of digital structures and algorithm-driven optimizations offers greater versatility for on-chip wavefront shaping.

The new industrial era has brought new opportunities and chances for the entire business development. Smart machines, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, big data are taking over many jobs and roles, thus leaving room for the development of new skills and abilities. The rapid technological development in terms of automation and digitization has made machines replace human work. In this sense, it is a matter of time when technology will replace traditional accountants. (Management) accountants who want to adapt and survive in the digital world have to improve their offer and change the focus from data calculation to interpretation of results and business management. Thus, by applying new digital information technology tools, management accounting can provide quality information for determining the costs of products and services, performance measurement, planning and control, strategic and operational decision-making and the like. The general objective of this paper is to review the potential impact of digital information technologies on the usefulness of cost accounting systems and organizational performance in healthcare institutions in the Republic of Serbia with the help of statistical analysis of the relationship between the selected variables. The results of the analysis show that digital technologies have a great impact on the usefulness of the cost accounting system. Also, the largest number of respondents pointed out that improved IT systems have a positive effect on increasing organizational performance.
