As AI continues to transform educational practices, understanding its potential benefits, limitations, and ethical implications is critical. This study explores future educators’ perceptions of generative ΑΙ in higher education. Through a mixed-methods approach, this research gathered insights from undergraduate and master’s level students on their familiarity with, willingness to use, and concerns about AI-driven educational tools. Findings highlight a general positivity toward AI’s utility in learning and teaching, with key advantages including personalised feedback, time efficiency, and academic support. Conversely, challenges related to reliability, academic integrity, and the potential for over-reliance reveal areas for further guidance and digital literacy enhancement. Post-intervention data suggests that hands-on experience with AI can reduce concerns and foster a balanced perspective on AI adoption in education. This study underscores the need for ethical frameworks and policy guidance to support the responsible integration of AI in educational contexts.

The geometry of the environment can affect numerous psychological, social, and ecological processes. But its roles in social learning and the dynamics of descriptive norms remain unclear. Here we use agent-based modeling to explore how environments with different geometric shapes can influence social learning to produce variations in the extent of universally shared descriptive norms. Our simulations show that an environment with an irregular layout facilitates the emergence of multiple descriptive norms in a population, whereas an environment with a regular grid plan constrains social learning to produce a behaviorally homogeneous population.

Deep-sea corals are critical to global exploration of deep-sea biodiversity, but research on them in the Indian Ocean is very limited. In this study, we report the first discovery of two new species of red corals at a depth of 1697 m in the western Indian Ocean. The species were identified through detailed morphological analysis, including microscopic examination of colony structure, branches and autozooids (assessing size, abundance and spacing), as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of sclerite morphology and quantity. Two species for the genus Hemicorallium Gray, 1867 were found as new species, designated Hemicorallium indicodensum sp. nov. and Hemicorallium jiaolongensis sp. nov. H. indicodensum sp. nov. is characterised by densely branched structures and numerous globular double-club sclerites, distinguishing it from other species. Meanwhile, H. jiaolongensis sp. nov. features yellowish-white colonies with short rods with sharp, large radial projections in the tentacles. Four mitochondrial regions were used to reveal the phylogenetic relationship in Coralliidae, supporting the taxonomic placement of these two new species. This study provides significant new insights into the biodiversity of deep-sea corals in the Indian Ocean, enriching the known species pool. Additionally, a more comprehensive key to the genus Hemicorallium is provided, further enhancing our understanding of the group’s taxonomy.

Fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal pain syndrome characterized with the presence of sensitive points and widespread chronic pain and restricts one's daily life activities and decreases the quality of life. The etiology of fibromyalgia is unclear, but there are numerous hypotheses regarding the emergence and progression of the disease. Among these, the biopsychosocial model offers a holistic framework in which biological, psychological and social mechanisms play a role in the development of fibromyalgia. Since the etiology of the disease is not yet understood, effective methods for its treatment have not been found, thus, interventions aim to reduce the effect of fibromyalgia and increase psychological and physiological functionality. This article aims to examine the psyhcological intervention areas and methods for fibromyalgia patients. In the literature, it is concluded that pain avoidance beliefs and behaviors, self-efficacy, physical activity, sleep quality, self-compassion, emotional skills, coping strategies, personality, comorbid psychopathology are the factors related with the emergence of the disease, severity of pain, and adherence to treatment in fibromyalgia patients. In this context, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), physical exercises, sleep management Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion focused psychotherapies, mindfulness based psychotherapies, emotion expression and emotion regulation techniques, and biofeedback are recommended as effective methods which can be included in the treatment plans of fibromyalgia patients. Moreover, considering the psychosocial factors in the assessment processes was essential to establish individualized treatment plans. In addition, the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in the treatment processes of fibromyalgia has been discussed within the framework of the biopsychosocial model.

PORTIA: A Large-Scale Port Acoustic Dataset with AIS-Grounded Annotations for AI-Based Vessel Monitoring PORTIA is a passive acoustic monitoring dataset collected in the Port of Valencia, Spain, using a fixed hydrophone array and synchronized Automatic Identification System (AIS) metadata. The dataset is designed to support the development and benchmarking of AI methods for vessel detection, vessel-type classification, and multi-label acoustic monitoring in dense, realistic port environments. The dataset consists of 3-second multi-channel WAV audio windows sampled at 32 kHz and stored as 32-bit PCM, together with CSV metadata files linking each acoustic window to AIS-derived vessel information. Each valid 3-second audio file contains 96,000 samples per channel. Recordings were acquired using three hydrophones connected to a four-input audio interface. Consequently, the released WAV files contain four channels. Using zero-based indexing, channels 0, 2, and 3 contain hydrophone signals, while channel 1 corresponds to an unused input and is expected to be silent or near-silent. The released public version contains 95,022 unique audio windows in a shared audio/ directory. These windows are referenced by three task-specific benchmark subsets: Benchmark Samples Approx. duration Purpose Binary Detection 36,148 ~30.12 h Vessel presence versus background Single-Vessel Classification 39,125 ~32.60 h Classification of isolated vessel windows Multi-Label Monitoring 34,996 ~29.16 h Concurrent vessel monitoring in multi-vessel scenes The three benchmarks are not mutually exclusive: some audio windows are shared across more than one task-specific subset. The total number of benchmark memberships is 110,269, while the union of all referenced audio files contains 95,022 unique windows. Files included in the release The dataset is distributed through separate archives for the audio data, benchmark definitions, and general metadata: File Contents PORTIA_audio.z01 to PORTIA_audio.z06 First six parts of the split audio archive. PORTIA_audio.zip Final part and main entry point of the split audio archive. PORTIA_Binary_Detection.zip Training, validation, and test manifests for the Binary Detection benchmark. PORTIA_Single_Vessel_Classification.zip Training, validation, and test manifests for the Single-Vessel Classification benchmark. PORTIA_Multi_Label_Monitoring.zip Training, validation, and test manifests for the Multi-Label Monitoring benchmark. PORTIA_Metadata.zip General dataset metadata. Dataset structure After all archives have been extracted into the same destination directory, the recommended structure is: PORTIA/ ├── audio/ │ ├── 20250516_165455.610896209.wav │ ├── 20250516_191000.729903060.wav │ └── ... ├── Binary_Detection/ │ ├── train.csv │ ├── val.csv │ └── test.csv ├── Single_Vessel_Classification/ │ ├── train.csv │ ├── val.csv │ └── test.csv ├── Multi_Label_Monitoring/ │ ├── train.csv │ ├── val.csv │ └── test.csv └── metadata.json The audio/ directory contains the shared pool of unique WAV files. The benchmark directories contain CSV manifest files defining the training, validation, and test partitions and the corresponding labels for each task. CSV metadata fields The released CSV files use a harmonized schema. Depending on the benchmark, some fields may be task-specific. Field Description window_id Name of the corresponding WAV file in the shared audio/ directory. start_utc Start timestamp of the 3-second acoustic window in UTC. label_vessel Binary vessel-presence label. 1 indicates at least one AIS-linked vessel and 0 indicates background. This is the ground-truth target for Binary Detection. n_vessels Number of AIS-linked vessels associated with the acoustic window. primary_class Class of the primary or nearest AIS-linked vessel. This is the target field for Single-Vessel Classification. primary_dist Distance, in kilometres, from the hydrophone array to the primary or nearest AIS-linked vessel. primary_mmsi MMSI identifier of the primary or nearest AIS-linked vessel. tug, pilot, cargo, passenger, support, tanker, other Per-class binary indicators used in the Multi-Label Monitoring benchmark. dist_tug_km, dist_pilot_km, dist_cargo_km, dist_passenger_km, dist_support_km, dist_tanker_km, dist_other_km Distance, in kilometres, from the hydrophone array to the nearest vessel of each class. Empty values indicate that the corresponding class is absent from the window. Benchmark definitions Binary Detection The Binary Detection benchmark is intended for acoustic vessel-presence detection. The target field is: label_vessel A value of 1 indicates vessel presence, while 0 indicates background. Single-Vessel Classification The Single-Vessel Classification benchmark contains only windows associated with exactly one AIS-linked vessel. The target field is: primary_class This subset is intended for vessel-type classification under isolated-vessel conditions. Multi-Label Monitoring The Multi-Label Monitoring benchmark is intended for dense port scenes where several vessels may be present in the same acoustic window. The targets are the per-class binary indicators: tug, pilot, cargo, passenger, support, tanker, other Per-class proximity information is provided through the corresponding distance fields: dist_tug_km, dist_pilot_km, dist_cargo_km, dist_passenger_km, dist_support_km, dist_tanker_km, dist_other_km Download and extraction instructions 1. Download all required files Download all parts of the audio archive and keep them together in the same directory: PORTIA_audio.z01 PORTIA_audio.z02 PORTIA_audio.z03 PORTIA_audio.z04 PORTIA_audio.z05 PORTIA_audio.z06 PORTIA_audio.zip The .z01 to .z06 files and the final .zip file form a single split ZIP archive. All seven files are required to extract the complete audio collection. Do not rename the archive parts and do not attempt to extract the .z01 files separately. Extraction must be started from PORTIA_audio.zip. 2. Extract the audio archive using 7-Zip The recommended extraction method is 7-Zip. From a terminal, run: 7z x PORTIA_audio.zip 7-Zip will automatically locate and read PORTIA_audio.z01 through PORTIA_audio.z06, provided that all parts are stored in the same directory. On Windows, the same operation can be performed by right-clicking PORTIA_audio.zip, selecting 7-Zip, and then selecting Extract here or Extract to PORTIA_audio\. 3. Alternative extraction using Info-ZIP Some versions of the standard unzip command do not directly support split ZIP archives. In that case, first convert the archive into a single ZIP file: zip -s 0 PORTIA_audio.zip --out PORTIA_audio_full.zip unzip PORTIA_audio_full.zip The temporary file PORTIA_audio_full.zip may be deleted after successful extraction. 4. Extract the benchmark and metadata archives The smaller benchmark and metadata archives can be extracted independently: unzip PORTIA_Binary_Detection.zip unzip PORTIA_Single_Vessel_Classification.zip unzip PORTIA_Multi_Label_Monitoring.zip unzip PORTIA_Metadata.zip Extract all archives into the same parent directory to obtain the recommended PORTIA/ dataset structure. 5. Storage requirements The complete split audio archive is approximately 75 GB. Users should ensure that sufficient disk space is available for both the downloaded archive parts and the extracted WAV files. Approximately 150 GB or more of free space is recommended when retaining both the compressed and extracted copies. 6. Verification after extraction After extraction, users are encouraged to verify that: The audio/ directory contains 95,022 unique WAV files. Each valid file represents a 3-second audio window. The sampling rate is 32 kHz. The sample format is 16-bit PCM. Each WAV file contains four channels. The CSV manifests reference files available in the shared audio/ directory. Notes on annotation PORTIA labels are derived from synchronized AIS records rather than exhaustive manual acoustic annotation. Therefore, the labels represent vessel metadata grounded in spatiotemporal co-occurrence with the acoustic recordings. This design enables large-scale benchmarking under realistic port conditions. However, users should consider the AIS-derived nature of the labels when interpreting experimental results, particularly in relation to vessels without valid AIS transmissions, positioning uncertainty, and the potential acoustic contribution of vessels located outside the annotation area. In exchange, ants receive food, and also shelter within the plants’ internodes. Here we demonstrate that ants repair damage to the host plant when their brood is directly threatened. Using comminuted plant fibers and an unidentified binding liquid (probably plant sap) ants generally began patching holes in the tree trunk immediately, and significantly reduced the size of the hole 2.5 hours after it was created, and they generally completed the repairs within 24 hours.

Temir, Lbishchensky and Ural uyezds belonged to the Ural region, Turgai and Irgiz uyezds to the Turgai region. Methods and materials. Using the mathematical method, the method of comparative analysis and content analysis, the author shows how much income per person came from crafts in the studied uyezds and proves that crafts were only additional industries and could not compete with nomadic cattle breeding. The article examines the crafts that brought the greatest income. Farmhands, transportation, groundhog hunting, fishing, etc., were well-known crafts; the Muslim spiritual cult and its servants was an unusual craft. Analysis. Our article shows that the studied uyezds had their own craft specializations. For example, a significant number of nomads in Lbischensky uyezd were engaged in transportation, in Turgai uyezd in hunting groundhogs, in Irgiz uyezd in hunting and fishing. Results. At the end of the article, the author concludes that the majority of nomads were primarily engaged in crafts as farmhands due to their poverty.

The article addresses the relationship between open and closed texts. The aim of the study is to analyze the specifics of relationship between the open and closed text in the general context of communication between the author and the reader. While supporting mainly U. Eco’s concept in our article, we furnish it with the analysis of four approaches of openness/closedness, which we have singled out. Openness/closedness is conceptualized, firstly: as an ontological perspective of the opposition between the communication parameters: The text-as-process and text-as-outcome; secondly, as interpretation procedures that are common for the articulation of all texts, regardless of their form and contents; thirdly, as the ontological and technological potential of works’ physical unfinishedness that invite the recipient to co-authorship (for example, ‘the work-in-movement’ and hypertext); fourthly, as the ability of a text to provoke multiple or unambiguous interpretations. We also demonstrate that the way of text’s functioning is determined not only by the addressee's attitude to it, but text itself, in return, stimulates this attitude, predisposing to it by its specificity (as informative or artistic, kitsch or art, hypertext or linear text, digital or analog). However, as we explain in the conclusion, the dialectic of openness/closedness can affect the distinctness of these dichotomies: The text can use its openness manipulatively, which turns it into a closed text.

Dancing monkeys in Serbian and Korean – exhaustivity requirements on distributive share markers

In some languages, distributive markers/quantifiers can attach to the argument that is being distributed (the distributive share), as opposed to the restrictor of the sentence (the distributive key). Researchers agree that distributive share markers can also distribute over events (and not only individuals), but disagree as to what these markers are semantically – universal distributive quantifiers or event plurality (pluractional) markers. In this paper, we experimentally probe spatial event distribution. On a universal quantification account, exhaustive distribution over a spatial distributive key is enforced, while on the pluractional analysis there is no such requirement. We carried out two picture verification experiments to test exhaustivity requirements in intransitive sentences with distributive share markers from two typologically different languages: the Serbian marker po and the Korean marker -ssik. We found evidence for an exhaustivity requirement over pluralities of non-atomic individuals (groups), but not over designated spatial locations. We interpret these findings as evidence that the semantics of (spatial) event distribution with distributive share markers involves a (spatial) distributive key. Specifically, po/-ssik have a universal quantificational force (with a meaning akin to per (each)) establishing a distributive relation between individual events and elements of the spatial distributive key. Plural individuals made salient in the visual input can serve to divide up the spatial key into chunks of space that have to be exhausted.

This paper offers a description and account of the patterns of ex-situ focus in Dagbani. We show that there are two syntactic strategies for creating ex-situ focus in the language, one involving A’-movement to the left periphery, and the second involving base generation in the left periphery combined with coreference to a resumptive pronoun. Furthermore, we argue that subjects are difficult to move from Spec,TP to Spec,CP in the left-periphery because of anti-locality, which creates a tension when trying to focus subjects, which are required to derivationally fill the specifier of both positions. We further show that what looks to be a two-way distinction between the behaviour of subjects and non-subjects in the language is in fact a three-way distinction between subjects that are focussed to a local left-periphery, subjects that are focussed to a non-local left-periphery, and non-subjects. These distinctions arise due to there being two methods for Dagbani to resolve the antilocality problem of subject movement, and so local subjects solve the problem differently to non-local subjects.
