Library History

A journey of knowledge and service, from the Library’s beginnings in 1963 to its expanding learning spaces.

The Library began with the establishment of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1963. Its first home was near the lower creek of the Agriculture Area, identified in the 2024 manual as the site of the Office of Student Affairs and Services.

1963

The Library opened with almost 2,000 volumes. School funds and donations helped build the early collection.

1985

The Library moved to the building beside the Administration Building. The Agricultural Education Outreach Program funded the building.

2014

The Instructional Media Center was built beside the Library to support multimedia and instructional activities.

2019

A library extension added space for serial collections, a staff lounge and discussion rooms.

Present

The Library connects campus services, digital resources, research support and community feedback through the Unified Library Research Hub.

Partners in the early collection

The manual acknowledges contributions from:

  • Agricultural Education Outreach Program (AEOP)
  • Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (identified as PCARRD in the manual)
  • International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
  • Asia Foundation
  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

A growing campus network

The manual records Puerto Princesa Library in 1982, El Nido in 1994, Busuanga, Quezon and Culion in 2003, and Rio Tuba in 2004. It also identifies Taytay in its eight-campus organizational structure.
